I’m looking to consolidate a few of my student loans; however one is considered a private loan and can not be consolidated under federal student loan consolidation. I do have a discharged bankruptcy on file that was discharged in January 2006 and I have made all my payments on time since then. Last I checked my median credit score was 705 also. Does anyone have any recommendations as to where I can get a loan for roughly $13,000?
I’m trying to reduce my payments into 1 monthly payment instead of sending payments to mulitple places. As for the second job, I already have one. I have more than just these student loans, these are just the smallest ones. My budget is very tight.

15k in credit card debt, 17K in personal student loan debt, 15K in government student loan debt, 15k in car loan debt.

All im trying to do is consolidate my CC debt. The rest i will deal with with later.

Anyone know of a legit company? No marks from credit solutions please!

We know the downside of – if one of us dies the other is responsible for the loan – but we both have such high interest rates and would love to consolidate before they go up again. We are trying to simplify our finances and reap the benefits of smaller payments…

Does anyone have any advice on student loans and what to do with them after college?Besides paying them back. Any information on consolidation or programs and plans would be greatly appreciated.

I have seen these private for profit colleges that advertise and have even talked to them on the phone…the colleges like Phoenix University Online College and also the one that advertises to “goto college in your pj’s”.
After many talks on the phone with these college’s counselors, I was finally able to find the apparently “top secret” tuition fees these guys charge…HOLY COW! OMG they are super expensive….at least 10x more than my local community college that also offers most all of it’s classes online as well.
So my question is why would ANYONE go to one of these Phoenix University type online schools and pay $35 K for a degree when they can get one from their local community college/transfer program, also with most classes offered online as an option, for one tenth the amount? What is the advantage you are getting for being saddled with 10x more student loan debt? Why not just go to the community college, then transfer to a state school, they all have most of their courses available online also…but at one tenth the cost!
Please explain to me why any student at Phoenix or it’s equivalents are attending that school and paying sooo much money? Those schools are outrageously expensive in comparison to the not-for-profit state schools. Please advise, because it just does not make sense to me…what do they offer that the community college does not? Esp. for so much extra money, it should be something substantial whatever it is..Please help me to understand why anyone would choose a school like Phoenix?
Thanks,

I have went to the URL presented in Joe’s answer, and it says essentially that there is more online help available to the for profit’s students, that may not be found in the online courses offered at a State non-profit.
One of the examples stated is homework help….haha…
I cannot find anything in that article to justify spending soo much extra money…especially since online help, if not offered as part of a state school’s curriculum, can so easily be obtained elsewhere, at NO cost, for the thrifty State school attendee. So my response to the first answer Joe, “Sorry man, but you WASTED a LOT of money, if that is the best “advantage” there is… I hope there is some better justification that is much much more profound and that cannot be obtained elsewhere for free.
Thank you for your answer though, I guess it would be a “slight” advantage, but then, the much much extra extra student loan debt one gets saddled with FOR LIFE is anything BUT slight…..

I have mounting debt mainly due to student loans (whihc I would liek to pay seperate) but everythign else from credit cards and phone bills etc is very hihg close to 15,000. I want to consolidate so ic an make monthly payments to all of them and try to save my credit. any good place u can recomment that will no charge me a high interest rate or take too much profits away?

Our kids have private student loans with Citibank. They had the best consolidation options when the loans were obtained and now they won’t consolidate their OWN loans. Can anyone recommend a reputable company. I know Wells Fargo will consolidate private loans from other places, but I don’t know anything about them.

I keep getting calls from this place. They are rather pushy to get me to fill out an application. I dont even know if this place is legit, because I believe Student Loan Consolidation Program is the most legit place there is. Is there a way I can get them to stop calling without talking to them? I dont really want to pay for a service just for one number.

Like most people, i didnt read the fine print and now sallie mae has my balls in a vice. I need to know if anyone knows of a federal grant program that will pay off my debt to sallie mae? This question has been posted before, but it seems everyone always points you in the direction of “debt consolidation”. My goal is a program that will fully pay off the loan. Any one got some wisdom?
