What can I do about my credit?

I just turned 20, and I have a lot of debt because I was homeless for awhile after high school. I used to have really good credit, but it has suffered lately. I had a Sprint bill go to collections because I was homeless and had no job, but it is paid in full. I now have a Verizon bill that has gone to collections, but for a different reason. I refuse to pay it because they refuse to tell me why I owe so much. When I disconnected service with them, I owed $500(early termination included in that amount) and now they are saying I owe $1200 and can’t tell me why. I also had a JCPenney card that isnt in collections but is behind. I am paying back my student loans slowly, but I am a little behind. Also, I just got evicted from my apartment because my door was kicked down and all my stuff stolen and I got a noise complaint and a complaint of police activity. I plan to fight that one in court, but they will report badly on my credit. I wanted to get a debt consolidation loan, but bad credit and all I own is my car, which isn’t worth enough to use as colateral. Good things about my credit are I have never missed a payment on my current cell bill, my cable bill, my utilities or my rent anywhere I have ever lived. My problem is I really need a cheap second car because my fiancee and I are sharing one and I am going to lose my AWESOME job because I am late every day because of our conflicting schedules. Also, I am in a rent to own agreement with my current landlord, who is going to pay my downpayment to own the house I am living in after 12 months, but I am afraid I can’t get the loan. How can I improve my credit? How bad is my credit? What can I do about the Verizon charges and my eviction? Is there a way to dispute them? I paid my apartment for the time I lived there, but I will NOT pay them for breaking the lease because I didn’t. I will pay Vezion what I owe them but I won’t give them money they can’t prove I owe them. I don’t mind to pay my debts, but I am not paying people trying to take advantage of me. Is there anyplace that will give me a loan to consolidate these debts so I can start making a single monthly payment? Is there any place that will give me a car loan? HELP!!!!!

A confusing student loan situation?

I am trying to help my neighbor figure out what is going on with her student loans.

A bit of history she had defaulted a few years back and very recently completed a loan rehab program. Right before compleation of the program she was offered the chance to participate in the William D Ford Program (what ever that is) She filled out all the paperwork and sent it back. She selected the Income Contingent Repayment plan.

Soon after that she is sent notice that Sallie Mae is the new lender (before finishing rehab it was GRC) and that her new payments would
be $50.08 instead of the $58.00 she was sending to GRC. The new payments were to begin Feb 24, 2009. (she even has a payment coupon book)

Do you have lots of different students loans, and are slowly going crazy trying to remember when they’re all due and how much you need to pay? If so, then consolidating your student loans into one loan will make your life a lot easier.

But before you sign a loan contract, make sure you shop around for the best interest rate you can get. One of the most important things you can do in order to get a good interest rate is to have good credit. This sounds very simple, but plenty of people go loan shopping without even knowing what their FICO score is.

Student Loan Consolidation Can Save Thousands for Student Borrowers with Multiple Loans

A rate hike is expected July 1 on variable interest rates, which would mean an increase on federal student loan rates by as much as 2 percentage points. While student borrowers may be inclined to panic, they easily can consolidate their loans before the increase takes effect.

Need advice on student loan repayments?

I’m a college student in my last semester of school (14 weeks to go!!!)

Any advice on consolidation and repayments?

In particular, about the monthly payments. Have you had any options to make the payments over the longer period and when you had additional money did you pay extra?

Were they honest about the monthly loan amout?

I’m trying to find someone to refinance my student loan for a little more than $13,000. But so far nobody is accepting new consolidations because of the economy. Any ideas?

While in college, I built up about $16,000 in student loan debt and about $10,000 in credit card debt to pay for classes and books. Considering it was about $75,000 total for my degree, I’m not too upset but the interest is killing me on the credit card. I need to get it transferred to a lower rate. I thought about a credit card balance transfer but I would prefer something a little more permanent. I’m figuring on paying about $600 a month at least, but hopefully more like $750 a month. If anyone has any advice, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Teaching English abroad: Korea or Spain?

I’m applying to two programs, one in Korea and one in Spain, to teach English. Here’s a comparison:

1. In Korea I would run my own classroom, in Spain I would be an assistant. I have five years teaching experience.

2. In Spain I would get paid about $1000/month, in Korea I would make twice that.
